MEMBERSHIP DESIGNATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
STUDENT MEMBER
- A Student Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate and be enrolled as a student with a recognised learning site / college.
- On attaining the necessary educational qualification, a student may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.
- A student shall be entitled to remain in the grade of Student Member, only while enrolled with a recognised learning site / college, for a maximum period of five (5) years.
AFFILIATE MEMBER
- An Affiliate Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate and be employed as a draughtsperson, CAD operator or similar, producing drawings from information supplied by a qualified draughtsperson or registered professional.
- On attaining the necessary educational qualifications and or relevant experience, an Affiliate Member may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.
- An Affiliate Member shall be entitled to remain in such a grade of membership for a maximum period of five (5) years.
GRADUATE MEMBER
- A Graduate Member is a person who is in possession of a Grade 12 certificate and a minimum of a N4 / N 5 Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) National Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
- On attaining the necessary experience, a Graduate Member may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.
- A Graduate Member shall be entitled to remain in such grade of membership for a maximum period of five (5) years.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER
- An Associate Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate and be employed as a draughtsperson / designer, or directly associated with draughting / design in a professional capacity.
- An Affiliate Member with qualifications below that of Graduate Member and four (4) years practical draughting experience at the time of his / her application for upgrading, will be upgraded to Associate Member.
- Alternatively, where an applicant has no formal post basic qualifications, but has been registered as an Affiliate Member for five (5) years, is eligible to apply for upgrading to an Associate Member.
- An Associate Member may upgrade to full member on having attained ten (10) years practical draughting / design experience.
FULL MEMBER
- A Full Member shall be in possession of a minimum of a N4 / N 5 Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) National Certificate, or equivalent qualification and have five (5) years of practical draughting / design experience or be directly associated with this field in an allied professional capacity.
- Alternatively, a Full Member shall have a minimum of ten (10) years of design / draughting and allied professional experience.
- Persons registered in a professional category with relevant Statutory Councils may be registered as a Full Member
RETIRED MEMBER
- A Retired Member shall be a person who was a former Full Member, Associate Member or Affiliate Member for 3 years or more and in good-standing, is sixty (60) years of age or older and has retired from active employment.
- A Retired Member shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office in the Institute nor will he / she be liable for payment of annual membership fees.
- A Retired Member may apply to the Executive Committee by written communication to be reinstated to his / her previous grade of membership should he / she again wish to be entitled to vote or to hold office. On reinstatement to his / her previous grade of membership the member will again become liable for the payment of the annual membership fee.
