Membership of The South African Institute of Draughting ® NPC

Registration

Grades of Membership

The Institute consists of members registered in five entry grades, three honorary grades and a grade for retired members.

Entry Grades

Student Member

A Student Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate, or Technical Matric N3 (4 subjects including tech. drawing, and 2 languages) and be enrolled as a student with a recognised learning site / college.

On attaining the necessary educational qualification, a student may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.

A student shall be entitled to remain in the grade of Student Member, only while enrolled with a recognised learning site / college, for a maximum period of five (5) years.

Affiliate Member

An Affiliate Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate or Technical Matric N3 (4 subjects including tech. drawing, and 2 languages)and be employed as a learner draughtsperson, CAD operator or similar, producing drawings from information supplied by a qualified draughtsperson or registered professional.

On attaining the necessary educational qualifications and or relevant experience, an Affiliate Member may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.

An Affiliate Member shall be entitled to remain in such a grade of membership for a maximum period of five (5) years.

Graduate Member

i) A Graduate Member is a person who is in possession of a Grade 12 certificate or Technical N3 Matric Certificate and a minimum of a N4 / N 5 Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) National Certificate, or equivalent qualification.

On attaining the necessary experience, a Graduate Member may apply to be reassessed for upgrading of membership.

A Graduate Member shall be entitled to remain in such grade of membership for a maximum period of five (5) years.

Associate Member

An Associate Member shall have a minimum of a Grade 12 certificate and be employed as a draughtsperson / designer, or directly associated with draughting / design in a professional capacity, for a minimum period of 4 years.

An Affiliate Member with qualifications below that of Graduate Member and four (4) years practical draughting experience at the time of his / her application for upgrading, will be upgraded to Associate Member.

Alternatively, where an applicant has no formal post matric basic qualifications, but has been registered as an Affiliate Member for five (5) years, is eligible to apply for upgrading to an Associate Member

An Associate Member may upgrade to full member on having attained seven (7) years practical draughting / design experience.

Full Member

A Full Member shall be in possession of a minimum of the qualification required for Graduate membership (refer cl. 16.1.3.i)) and have five (5) years of practical draughting / design experience or be directly associated with this field in an allied professional capacity.

Alternatively, a Full Member shall have a minimum of seven (7) years of design / draughting and allied professional experience.

Persons registered in a professional category with relevant Statutory Councils may be registered as a Full Member .

Retired Member Grade

A Retired Member shall be a person who was a former Full Member, Associate Member or Affiliate Member, is sixty (60) years of age or older and has retired from active employment.

A Retired Member shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office in the Institute nor will he / she be liable for payment of annual membership fees.

A Retired Member may apply to the Executive Committee by written communication to be reinstated to his / her previous grade of membership should he / she again wish to be entitled to vote or to hold office. On reinstatement to his / her previous grade of membership the member will again become liable for the payment of the annual membership fee.

A member of SAID in the grade of Affiliate or Associate member, who has a minimum of 3 years uninterrupted membership at the time of applying for an upgrade in terms of cl. 16.1.4.iv. , or 16.1.5.ii., qualify for a reduction in the number of years work experience required, of 6 months.

Applications to be preferably submitted in ELECTRONIC format, alternatively Posted.

Foreign Applicants requiring Registration of Membership of the South African Institute of Draughting, must complete ALL FIELDS of "Contact Us", requesting the relevant Application Documentation
